Stop importing fake Chinese ‘adire’ fabrics, traders pleading with the Ogun government
Adire fabric dealers in Ogun State have demanded an end to the local markets’ importation of tainted Chinese adire.
The traders made this disclosure while participating in a walk for advocacy in Abeokuta to warn customers and dealers against purchasing tainted Chinese adire.
In order to protect the state’s cultural legacy, the traders pleaded with Governor Dapo Abiodun to forbid the sale of Chinese adire.
One of the merchants, Ogunfidodo Michael, complained to journalists that the entry of tainted Chinese adire “is pushing the locally made adire into extinction.”
“We are working to make our people aware of the negative effects of wearing materials that resemble adire. People mistake it for adire, but it is actually a synthetic fabric that is important everywhere, he said.
