The stepmother of the 11-year-old kid who was buried alive on Wednesday by the woman’s 17-year-old son has been detained by police in Kogi.
According to SP Williams Ovye-Aya, a police spokeswoman in Kogi, the woman was detained on Thursday as soon as she arrived home from church.
The 11-year-old was found alive on Wednesday after his stepbrother had buried him in a bush at the Silo community in Zango Daji, Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi.
The 11-year-old child was accused of stealing N10,000 from his stepmother, who gave her son instructions to discipline the suspect before going to church.
The 17-year-old dragged his stepbrother into the jungle and buried him alive as punishment for the 11-year-old, shocking the entire Kogi.
“Our officers and men were able to arrest the stepmother on Thursday after a tip-off,” the police said after immediately apprehending the 17-year-old. We now have custody of her.
She provided a statement to the police regarding the tragic event.
“We will send the mother and son to the Criminal Investigation Department for additional questioning on the causes of such family member mistreatment.

“It is sad that the family’s father or breadwinner was allegedly a traveller. We are awaiting his return so he may provide us with his statement.
We will charge the mother and son after the investigation is finished,” Ovye-Aya said.
The mother and the 17-year-old boy will be prosecuted, the Kogi administration has declared.
Hajiya Fatima Buba, the commissioner for women’s issues and social development, made the statement on Thursday in Lokoja while discussing the event with newsmen.
Buba called the incident “very wicked” and “saddening” and stated that the ministry was in close contact with the police to ensure that the mother and boy were immediately prosecuted.
“While the ministry works with the police to bring them to justice, the 11-year-old kid has been placed in an orphanage home with the required accommodations.
“Our research shows that the boy’s stepmother and stepbrother often mistreat him.
“As a government, we will see to it that justice is done on all the evildoers in Kogi,” she declared.
Buba advised guardians who like treating their wards cruelly to stop doing so or face the full force of the law. (NAN)
