Nigerian singer Spyro alleges that talent manager Ubi Franklin deceived him into parting with $5,000 by leveraging Davido’s name. Franklin has yet to respond to the claims.

Singer Spyro has alleged that well-known music executive Ubi Franklin scammed him out of $5,000.

During an interview on the Echoroom podcast, the musician revealed that Franklin misled him into performing at a birthday party in Ghana by falsely claiming it was a request from Davido.

He asserted that Franklin declined to pay him following the event, even though they had agreed on a $5,000 fee for his performance.

Spyro conveyed his disappointment and frustration about the incident, saying it was “painful to be taken advantage of,” even though Pastor Bolaji had intervened in the situation.

Until recently, I held a lot of respect for Ubi Franklin. He called me in the morning to let me know he was in Ghana for Iyanya’s birthday, and I said I’d be there.

When we arrived at the airport, he mentioned that there would be some performances at the party. I declined right away and was grateful to have Swavey with me for support. I explained that I don’t engage in anything without my manager’s involvement, despite his attempts to convince me otherwise.

When we arrived, I met up with Davido. At that time, I was preparing to release “Stand By You.” After leaving his place and going back to our apartment, I was working on a song with Iyanya when Ubi came in. He mentioned that Davido wanted me to perform at the party for $5k. However, I explained that my minimum charge is N20 million and also emphasized my loyalty to my management team. Since Davido planned for us to meet later for promoting “Stand By You,” I told Ubi I’d need to consult with my management first.

As soon as I arrived, Davido was coming off the stage. Ubi then told me that it was my turn to go on stage. Given the presence of dignitaries, I felt unable to refuse.

After the performance, I requested my money from Ubi. He avoided speaking to me until we were back in Lagos and continually ignored me, which was becoming quite frustrating. It felt like he was treating me disrespectfully by advising against contacting Davido because it wasn’t him who invited me to perform. Additionally, he involved Pastor Bolaji in the situation as well.

“There hasn’t been any call or message from Ubi. It’s distressing because he deceives people out of their money. I’m sharing this to warn other artists who might become his next targets.”
