Speed Darlington Found in Police Custody, Deji Adeyanju Reports

David Akinyemi

Deji Adeyanju announces that Speed Darlington, who was reported missing, is now confirmed to be held in police custody.

Deji Adeyanju, a well-known activist, has verified that the singer and social media personality Darlington Okoye, also known as Speed Darlington—previously reported missing—is actually being held by the Nigerian Police Force in Abuja.

Adeyanju, a lawyer, disclosed that Speed Darlington, also known as Akpi, was arrested in Lagos last Friday and later transferred to Abuja where he has been held in detention since.

He alleged that the arrest stemmed from a formal complaint made by Grammy Award-winning artist Burna Boy.

However, he did not provide details about the petition.

The activist shared this information in a post on his X account on Tuesday.

He wrote, “We just spent the last 30 minutes with Speed Darlington, who explained how he was arrested in Lagos on Friday of last week. He described being moved around and eventually taken to Abuja, where he’s been detained since then. We can confirm that a petition against him was filed by Burna Boy.”

Previously, social media influencer Constance Nwogu sounded the alarm about the reported disappearance of Speed Darlington.

In a social media post on Monday, Nwogu voiced concern about the artist’s whereabouts, mentioning that he has been out of contact for three days.

“It has come to our attention that Speeddarlington (Akpi) has been missing for three days,” Nwogu posted on her Instagram page.

She noted that Speeddarlington’s social media page had its last post three days ago, a noticeable change from his typically frequent online presence.

Our correspondent’s investigation showed that Speeddarlington last posted on his YouTube channel three days ago, on October 4. In contrast, his most recent Instagram post was nearly a month ago, on September 8. Despite this gap in posts, he frequently goes live on Instagram.

“Up to this point, no one has been able to contact him. Despite all our efforts to reach out, we haven’t succeeded,” she added, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

Although there is no confirmed reason for Speeddarlington’s sudden disappearance, Nwogu speculated that it “might possibly be due to a video he had made earlier.”

In the video, Speed Darlington doubted the legitimacy of Burna Boy’s Grammy award and reportedly associated him with controversial musician Sean Combs, also known as P Diddy or Puff Daddy.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday through X, Burna Boy posted the message, “Who’s missing?”

This follows the report of Speed Darlington being missing.

However, it’s unclear whom Burna Boy is specifically referring to.

Following this, Nwogu encouraged the public to share any information that might help locate the missing entertainer.

“This is important. If anyone has information about this, please contact me or feel free to share it,” she added.

She promised her followers that she would share updates as soon as new information emerged.

“We will make sure to keep everyone informed if we have any updates. Thank you very much,” Nwogu said.

As of the time this article was published, the police have not released any information.
