Speaker Abbas, pledges to address the security issues in Nigeria
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has pledged that further laws tackling the underlying causes of Nigeria’s security issues will be passed by the 10th House.
The Nigerian Armed Forces’ ability to meet the difficulties would be reinforced, he continued.
The Speaker made the commitment while opening a two-day post-inauguration retreat for members of the House Committee on Defence, which was organised in conjunction with the Committee and the National Defence College in Abuja, according to a statement released on Thursday by the Speaker’s Special Advisor on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi.
As per his statement, security is one of the top priorities in the Legislative Agenda of the 10th House. He asserts that it is our shared duty to make sure that the police and armed services are sufficiently funded and equipped to address the various security issues that Nigeria faces.
“Legitiators have a critical role in ensuring that necessary legislative frameworks are in place to support national security architecture through robust legislations that address root causes of security challenges,” as Abbas underlined.
The speaker restated that in order for the 10th House to successfully carry out its constitutional duties, it would continue to support the work of security agencies by providing sufficient budget, cutting-edge equipment, stepping up training, and enhancing welfare benefits for security personnel.
He claimed that the House’s Legislative Agenda, which he introduced on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, committed them to passing laws that would strengthen national security.
The chairman of the committee, Babajimi Benson, voiced worry about the country’s present security issues and gave Nigerians hope that their legislators will continue to conduct their business properly, efficiently, and in a way that protects people’s lives and property.
