Sowunmi: Tinubu Is PDP’s Issue, Shouldn’t Have Appointed Wike as Minister
Segun Sowunmi criticizes Tinubu for appointing Wike as a minister, claiming the decision is a problem for the PDP.
Segun Sowunmi, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated on Wednesday that President Bola Tinubu is the primary issue facing his party.
Sowunmi, the previous Ogun PDP governorship candidate, mentioned this on Politics Today aired by Channels Television.
He criticized the decision to appoint former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, as FCT Minister, arguing that Tinubu should not have included Wike in his cabinet.
“When asked about the main issue facing the PDP, he responded, ‘People might lean towards saying Wike, but I would instead point to President Bola Tinubu.’”
“He shouldn’t have appointed our member to his cabinet without consulting us. He shouldn’t have taken Nyesom Wike from our party and given him a position.”

Sowunmi mentioned that when former President Olusegun Obasanjo aimed to establish a government of national unity, he sought advice from the party’s elders.

He stated that for the PDP to thrive, Tinubu should facilitate Wike’s return to the opposition party.

Despite the challenges currently facing the party, Sowunmi is confident that the PDP will overcome them and reposition itself to regain power.
He stated that the party is neither dead nor ailing, asserting that the PDP is grappling with issues related to democracy.
We haven’t reached a point where we can confirm having new executives. There’s confusion regarding Wike’s position since he is serving as a minister in the APC government while still being part of the PDP.
“These are consequences that will need to be addressed. However, I strongly object to your statement claiming the party is dead,” he added.
