Omoyele Sowore, the Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the 2019 and 2023 general elections, expressed strong disapproval of the six-month jail sentence given to the controversial transgender figure, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, by a Federal High Court in Lagos for defacing the Naira currency.

Sowore emphasized that the individuals truly responsible for the economic and currency woes of Nigeria have not faced any legal consequences for their actions.

Taking to his Facebook page, Sowore questioned the priorities of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by highlighting the disparity in the treatment of Bobrisky’s case compared to the lack of accountability for high-profile financial criminals who have caused significant harm to the nation’s economy.

Sowore pointed out that the focus on prosecuting and imprisoning Bobrisky for his actions involving the Naira currency indicates a misplaced sense of justice, especially when compared to the lack of legal action against prominent figures like former President Muhammadu Buhari, Abubakar Malami, Tunde Sabiu, and Godwin Emefiele, who have been implicated in serious economic offenses.

By drawing attention to the ongoing cases of real financial criminals that have been under prosecution since 2007, Sowore called for a reevaluation of the EFCC’s priorities and urged for accountability to be upheld for those who have caused significant economic damage to Nigeria.

He emphasized the need for a fair and just legal system that targets the true perpetrators of economic crimes rather than focusing on individuals like Bobrisky.
