Monarchs from Southeast Nigeria beg the government to release Nnamdi Kanu, claiming it will ensure peace in the region.

The South East Traditional Rulers Council has requested that the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, be released by the Federal Government.

On Sunday in Abuja, Igwe Samuel Asadu, the Council Chairman, appealed for his release to ease tension within Nigeria’s southeastern region.

According to Igwe Asadu, the council is backing the plea from stakeholders such as southeast governors, lawmakers and all residents of the region for his release.

“He is our son,” he stated. “Despite the challenges with the judiciary, he has been a constant presence for quite some time now.”

We support the call made by the Governors Forum and other stakeholders for his release in order to reduce tension.

We anticipate that the government will exercise its responsibility to secure assurance for individuals with regards to limiting the release within anticipated boundaries. Such measures ought to be established through an agreement.

The royal father expressed that the eventual release of Kanu would bring about a considerable sense of tranquility and elation to the people in the area.

Should the president investigate and grant him clemency, we would eagerly anticipate it. His absence has impacted our locality as a few individuals are his ardent supporters.

“Of course, no one would want their son to be imprisoned for an extended period. As a result, we pray daily along with all the customary leaders for Nnamdi Kanu’s freedom.”

The suffering of him and his family resonates with us deeply.

He added that it would be a generous gesture if the President were to do so, and we will show our gratitude in a significant manner upon our return.
