South African Woman Swept Away by Floodwaters in KwaZulu-Natal

A woman has been swept away by raging floodwaters in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province as heavy rains continue to wreak havoc. Rescue efforts are ongoing.
On Thursday night in KZN, a woman’s car was swept away by strong floodwaters that caused significant destruction and disruption.
A woman in South Africa tragically died as a result of severe flooding in Pinetown on Friday.
Rescue teams are actively engaged in removing debris from the affected area.
In recent weeks, KwaZulu-Natal has experienced significant heavy rainfall, resulting in widespread flooding. Authorities are advising residents to refrain from unnecessary travel and to steer clear of low-lying areas.
The floods have resulted in the loss of at least 31 lives, with 22 deaths occurring near Durban in KwaZulu-Natal and nine fatalities reported in Gaborone, Botswana’s capital city. Among those lost are six children.
The disaster has caused over 5,000 people to lose their homes.
From February 16 to 20, the flooding that affected both Botswana and South Africa led to major disruptions. These included the closure of key border crossings into South Africa, a temporary suspension of all government schools in Botswana, and severe traffic congestion.
Numerous regions have been entirely isolated, leaving residents stranded and making it challenging for emergency services to respond effectively.
The situation is still critical as rescue efforts persist and communities struggle with the flood’s aftermath.
Local authorities are actively striving to support those impacted and restore normalcy in the region.
