South Africa has officially requested Taiwan to move its de facto embassy out of Pretoria, signaling a shift in diplomatic relations. This move may have implications for Taiwan’s international presence and South Africa’s foreign policy.
Just 48 hours after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State declared a new minimum wage of N85,000 for state workers, Governor Siminalayi Fubara mirrored this decision on Friday by approving the same amount for civil servants in Rivers State.
George Nwaeke, the Head of Service for Rivers State, announced that Governor Fubara approved this decision during a private meeting with labor leaders and senior government officials.

After the meeting, Nwaeke announced that the new minimum wage of N85,000 would be implemented immediately.
The Chairman of the Joint Negotiation Team, Chukwu Emecheta, commended Governor Fubara for fulfilling the expectations of workers in Rivers State.
He expressed gratitude for the Governor’s dedication to the workforce.
Additionally, Alex Agwanwor, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Rivers State, highlighted that implementing a minimum wage will significantly ease the economic challenges experienced by workers in the state.
