From January, people with Kenyan passports will be able to visit South Africa without a visa for up to 90 days per year.
During a trip to Nairobi on important business on Wednesday, President Cyril Ramaphosa made the declaration.
Presidents Ramaphosa and William Ruto met privately to discuss potential areas of cooperation and shared interest.
“We have talked about the subject of visas to make it possible for Kenyans to travel to South Africa without a visa.
He said, “This will formally begin on January 1, 2023, and be accessible to Kenyans for 90 days each year.
Ramaphosa hailed the conversation with Ruto as “extremely positive and helpful” during a press briefing.
The president of South Africa stated that the friendship, democracy, and common values between the two nations serve as a solid basis for their relationship.
The President continued by saying that the agreements showed the new areas of cooperation that both countries had determined.
For up to three months, South African nationals have been able to enter Kenya without a visa.
However, Kenyans have long complained that the gesture was not returned due to the difficulties in obtaining visas.
Kenya is ranked 76th internationally in the 2022 Henley Passport Index Report, down from 77th in 2021.
