Sonia Ekweremadu breaks her silence on her parents’ experience following nine-year sentence

Sonia, the daughter of a former vice president of the Senate, has spoken on her parents’ ordeal in the UK.

Remember that on Friday, a UK court condemned Ekweremadu to 9 years and 8 months in prison, while his wife Beatrice and Obinna Obetta received sentences of 4 years and 10 years, respectively.

Following their conviction for organ trafficking in March, which resulted in a six-week term, it became the first of its kind under the Modern Slavery Act.

Ekweremadu, Beatrice, and Obeta were previously found guilty of conspiring to organize the passage of a young Nigerian man, David Nwamini, to Britain in order to take advantage of him for his kidney.

The kidney was intended for Sonia, the ill daughter of Ekweremadu.

Speaking to the BBC on Friday, Sonia expressed her shock, brokenness, and disagreement with the verdict.

“That is sad. I’ve had an extremely difficult time processing it. I recognize the conviction. Personally, I disagree with it, but as their daughter, I am obviously biased and would support my parents regardless.

But now that the law has run its course, my family and I must simply move forward.
