Governor Soludo kicks off a new scheme aimed at empowering 8,000 youths with essential skills for their future.

Prof Chukwuma Soludo, the Governor of Anambra State, has initiated a program to empower 8,000 youths in the state and steer them away from vagrancy.

Moreover, 620 enterprises in the region that have received training will be designated as masterclass trainers and granted compensation for expanding their business to cater to trainees.

During his office interview with Obasanjonews.com on Tuesday, Mr. Patrick Aghamba – the Commissioner for Youth Development made this statement known.

According to Aghamba, the governor has just commenced the second phase of a scheme that was previously conducted in 2023.

According to him, the training comprises of multiple stages and will span for eight months. He also mentioned that stipends would be provided to trainees throughout the duration of their training. Moreover, he revealed that there are currently 620 established centers dispersed across all regions within the state.

“The training is open to individuals between 18 and 45 years of age, regardless of their origin. However, residency in Anambra state is a requirement.” Said the speaker.

The concept behind this is that regardless of your origin, if you live in Anambra and acquire skills through our empowerment program, it’s likely that you’ll become an asset to society instead of a liability. Consequently, the occurrence of crimes within the state will decrease.

We aim to utilize the one youth two skills program in lowering crime rates across our state. The training is set to begin shortly.

The project comprises of two phases; Phase A which is designed for four-month courses and Phase B that spans over six months training. The program includes vocational training, followed by an entrepreneurship module lasting one month while another month will be spent on capturing data. In total the timeline allocated to the entire course runs up to eight months duration.

Aghamba highlighted a range of skills that would be acquired, including furniture making, metal fabrication, aluminum fabrication, CCTV installation and confectionery production as well as leather works.

He disclosed that the agriculture program would include livestock husbandry, pig farming, poultry rearing, fisheries management and cassava processing as some of its main components.

For this program, we possess 42 skills in total. Our goal is to engage 8,000 young individuals and aid the expansion of approximately 620 businesses so that they can accommodate all trainees sent their way.
