Soldiers have taken control of a major road in Abuja during a nationwide protest, causing significant disruptions and raising concerns about public safety and order.

Military personnel have seized control of a key route leading to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) just days before a nationwide demonstration on August 1, protesting economic struggles. The remaining time until the protest is less than 72 hours.

According to OBASANJONEWS, a military “stop-and-search” operation caused numerous commuters to be stranded for several hours.

Soldiers stationed at the Sani Abacha Barracks close to the A-Y-A bridge caused a significant disruption of traffic on Monday along the Abuja-Keffi Expressway originating from Nasarawa.

The checkpoint imposed an unplanned obstruction that caused substantial traffic congestion. Spanning all the way to Nyanya Bridge, this situation affected civil servants and traders from satellite areas like Masaka, Keffi, Maraba, Karu or Nyanya who were caught off-guard due to lack of prior warning by security agencies.
