In order to combat rebels in the Southeast, troops from “Operation UDO KA II” cleared out terrorists’ hideouts in the Orsumoghu Forest in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra.
Two terrorists were neutralised by the military during the operation, according to Lt.-Col. Jonah Unuakhalu, Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 82 Division, who disclosed this to journalists in Enugu on Saturday.
He said that the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the militant wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which is banned, and its alleged hideouts were the focus of the operation.
Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were used by the alleged IPOB terrorists to slow down the army, but Unuakhalu revealed that the soldiers were unfazed.
Two of the group were neutralised by the army after they were able to remove them, while the rest managed to flee with gunshot wounds.
Five cell phones, a pair of military boots, a military belt, binoculars, leather hand gloves, and a police head warmer were among the items found during the camps’ search.
“Four locally made IED launchers (Ogbunigwe) and one handheld IED were the others,” he said.
