A soldier is accused of killing an NSCDC officer in a tragic incident at a nightclub in Oyo. Find out more about the circumstances surrounding the case.
Tragic events occurred in the Bodija district of Oyo State on Friday night when Olapade Segun, an officer of the Nigerian Civil Defence and Security Corps (NSCDC), was stabbed to death by a soldier named Abubakar during a violent dispute at a nightclub.
Witness accounts state that after a fight between the two security guards at the club, things got violent.
After the exchange, Abubakar allegedly became enraged and attacked Segun with a blade. Segun died from significant blood loss from the stabbing, according to sources.
Speaking on oath, a witness described how the soldier was accosted by a furious mob as he tried to escape the scene.

The soldier attempted to flee, but the enraged mob caught him and gave him a brutal beating. He wasn’t set free until his fellow soldiers showed there and broke up the mob.
As part of ongoing investigations, senior Nigerian Army officers have been visiting the NSCDC state command in the wake of the event. Additionally, it was discovered that the Army has formed a panel to look into the issue.
The Nigerian Army Public Relations Director, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, and the NSCDC spokeswoman, Babawale Afolabi, were not reachable at the time this article was filed because neither official had returned calls or messages.
Conflicts amongst security agencies have come under scrutiny in the wake of this unfortunate tragedy, and many have called for a thorough inquiry to guarantee that justice is done.
