The Sokoto monarch who was kidnapped has reportedly died in captivity. Discover the tragic circumstances and ongoing investigation.

Bandits have held captive Alhaji Muhammad Bawa, the Sarkin Kudun Gatawa of Gatawa District in Sokoto State until his untimely death.

On Wednesday afternoon, one of his sons confirmed the sorrowful news that he had passed away and informed the family.

Almost 30 days passed since Alhaji Bawa’s abduction, but not long before his demise, a harrowing footage emerged on the internet revealing the chieftain making an appeal for aid. In this recording, he implored urgently the Sokoto State Government and Sultanate Council along with those near to him to fulfill his kidnappers’ ransom demands prior to their deadline.

Alhaji Bawa’s plea for help was desperate as he stood before them in clothes stained with blood, his hands and legs chained. He made it clear that despite serving the government for 74 years, including 45 years of service within its ranks, he needed their assistance now more than ever. As a loyal servant to the government throughout his life until this point; Alhaji saw itfitting that they should step up and take responsibility by helping him during this trying time.

Although he made appeals, the ransom deadline lapsed without payment, resulting in the unfortunate demise of the revered traditional leader. This event serves as a solemn period for Gatawa District and underscores persistent security difficulties in that area.

Further information will be provided soon…
