APC has taken control of the Sokoto LG elections, winning across the board. Read about the election outcome and what it means for the future.

The results of last Saturday’s local government elections in Sokoto State indicate that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been proclaimed the victor of all 23 chairmanship and councillor posts.

Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission chairman Alhaji Aliyu Suleiman made the pronouncement on Monday.

Although the state’s largest opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), did not participate in the election, Suleiman pointed out that fifteen political parties did.

Certificates of return were promptly given by the commission to the newly elected chairs after the announcement. At 4:00 p.m. today, Governor Ahmed Aliyu will officially install the new chairs.

APC’s political influence in Sokoto State is strengthened by this win, which also increases its hold over local government management.
