After a violent attack by armed men believed to be Fulani herdsmen in the Abagana neighbourhood of Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, at least eight bodies have been found.

The attack was carried out late Thursday when the armed men stormed the neighbourhood close to the Internally Displaced Persons, or IDP, camp in Abagana, according to Paul Hemba, Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Benue State Governor, who verified the incidence for our correspondent.

According to Paul Hemba, members of the security team and other villagers have been looking through the neighbourhood bushes for any additional victims who the intruders may have shot.

He said that the terrible accident took the lives of all six members of a family.

Hemba also said that the attack was unprovoked because the people were getting ready to go to bed when the Fulani bandits killed them.

The security adviser predicts that the number of casualties will likely increase since some other people who were shot and killed but survived may not recover from chest wounds.
