All six victims were farmers, according to reports, including Mallam Yakubu Muhammad Bugai, Vice Chairman of the Jama’atul Izalatul Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus-Sunnah.

At least six persons have reportedly been slain and 40 others kidnapped by bandits in Kaduna State’s Birnin Gwari Local Government Area (LGA).

Although the police and the Kaduna State Government have yet to comment on the event, the Chairman of the Birnin-Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU), Ishaq Usman Kasai, stated in a statement on Saturday that the attack took place between Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Kasai stated that all six fatalities were farmers, including Mallam Yakubu Muhammad Bugai, Vice Chairman of the Jama’atul Izalatul Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus-Sunnah.

He also revealed that the bandits kidnapped roughly 40 additional farmers in separate attacks.

According to the statement, the Islamic cleric was shot in the abdomen on his property near Rema and was later evacuated and transferred to Jibril Mai-Gwari General Hospital.

The BEPU chairman added that the bandits abducted scores of villagers in the Kuyambana Forest, which he claims acts as a hideout for the criminals.

The bandits were also alleged to have entered Unguwan Danfulani village, killing one individual and capturing seven family members. Six traders from the Birnin-Gwari Weekly Market were later kidnapped.
