Six Boko Haram militants are killed by troops and vigilantes in Borno, and a coordinated operation is started in Kwara.

Six Boko Haram insurgents were killed yesterday morning during a raid by Nigerian Army Operation Hadin Kai troops and vigilantes in the Daula market in the Borno State local government of Bama.

According to information gathered from local intelligence sources, the troops set up a trap for militants who often met with other terrorist groups at a market a few kilometres outside of Bama town.

Before engaging the insurgents in a gunfight, the military allegedly set up an ambush for them. In the gunfight, four of them were neutralized, according to the sources.

In a related development, the Eiyenkorin-Peke-Okolowo axis in Ilorin, Kwara State, would be the target of a combined operation launched today by the Nigerian Air Force’s 303 Medium Airlift Group (MAG) Ilorin and other sister security services.

Exercise Apejopo Idi, which translates to “gathering of the eagles,” is the name of the operation, which will go through the end of December.

“Exercise Apejopo Idi, which is scheduled for December 16–31, 2022, aims to utilise NAF ground and air assets to comb the bushes and vulnerable communities within the Eiyenkorin–Peke–Okolowo Axis,” said Air Commodore Ibrahim Garba Jibia, commander of the 303 Medium Airlift Group.

In order to get rid of the bad apples and any potential kidnappers’ hideouts along that axis, the operation would also involve the 22 Brigade, the DSS, the police, and local vigilante and hunting groups.

“A huge number of troops will be moved during the operation.” It is part of a joint military-state government effort to provide security along the Eiyenkorin-Peke-Okolowo corridor.

So, he said, “all peaceful citizens shouldn’t be afraid. Instead, they should keep doing what they normally do during this time.”
