Sister Andre Randon, a French Catholic nun who was the oldest person in the world at 118 years old, passed away on Wednesday.
Randon passed Kane Tanaka of Japan’s record on April 19, 2022, when he passed away at the age of 119, according to the Gerontology Research Group, as reported by the Catholic News Agency (CNA).
On February 11, 1904, Lucile Randon was born in Alès, France, where she reportedly converted to Catholicism at the age of 19.
Sister André reportedly tended small children and the elderly at a French hospital during her lifetime before she entered the convent at the age of 40.
In 1944, she joined the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul. To honour her late brother, she took the name Sister Andre.
For her 115th birthday in 2019, Pope Francis gave the nun Sister a card and a blessed rosary, which she used all the way up until her passing.
According to the Gerontology Research Group, Maria Branyas Morera, a 115-year-old Spaniard, is currently the oldest person alive.
