Get ready for the Ondo election with this simple step-by-step guide on how to vote. Ensure your vote counts by following these easy instructions.
Residents of Ondo State will head to the polls on Saturday to elect their governor for the next four years.
The election serves as a critical assessment for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which claims to have learned from its errors in the earlier Edo State governorship election.
The Ondo election scheduled for November 16 is the first off-cycle poll in Nigeria following the September 21 event in neighboring Edo State.
The electoral body stated that polling units would open at approximately 8:30 am to allow voters to cast their ballots.
INEC officials are anticipated to arrive at the polling units beforehand. Only individuals possessing a Permanent Voters Card (PVC) will be permitted to vote.
Guide to Voting in the Ondo Election
Only those who possess a Permanent Voters Card (PVC) will be permitted to vote. But how can you participate in the voting process?
1. When a voter arrives at the polling station, they must first present their PVC to INEC officials. The electoral staff will then verify it using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
2. Following this, the official would verify and mark the voter’s name as accredited in the voter register.
3. Once this step is completed, the voter collects the ballot paper and goes to the voting booth to mark it with their thumbprint before placing it in the ballot box.
4. Election officials from INEC may also mark the voter’s thumb with ink to signify that they have indeed cast their vote.
5. After completing this process, the voter can choose to go home or wait nearby for the sorting and counting of votes.
