The injury occurred during the Super Eagles’ match against Mali in Marrakesh, Morocco, where the winger was forced to leave the game in the 34th minute due to a collision with Mali goalkeeper Mamadou Samassa.
FC Nantes provided an update on Simon’s condition on their website, stating that he was substituted shortly after the injury during the friendly match between Mali and Nigeria. Further examinations revealed a fracture of the fibula, indicating the severity of the injury.
With a wealth of experience, having played over 150 matches for FC Nantes, Simon is considered one of the key players at the French club.
Despite scoring three goals in 22 Ligue 1 appearances this season, his absence due to the injury will be a significant loss for the team.
Unfortunately, this injury setback means that Simon will miss the upcoming crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers for the Super Eagles against South Africa and Benin in June.
His absence will be felt, as he has been a major attacking force for the team, contributing three goals and six assists so far.
Recently signing a new three-year contract with FC Nantes, Simon was expected to continue his impressive performances for the club.
However, with his initial contract set to end this summer, the injury comes at a challenging time for the talented winger.
