48 hours before the start of the general elections in Nigeria, Ekpa was arrested on Thursday.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Finland, Keskusrikospoliisi (KRP), had a police operation at a private residence in the heart of Lahti, according to criminal investigator Tommi Reen of the Central Criminal Police.
Reen said that the procedure was related to a current exploratory study. He made no further remarks about it.
Finland had been invited by Nigeria to get involved in Ekpa’s efforts. Godfrey Onyeama, the minister of foreign affairs, invited Leena Pylvänäinen, the Finnish ambassador, to a meeting last week.
