Simisola Kosoko, better known by her stage name Simi, is a celebrated singer from Nigeria. Simi has disclosed that as a gospel performer, she used to receive performance fees of as little as N5,000–10,000.

She claimed that N70,000 was the biggest wage she has ever received.

The singer of “Duduke” said this while participating in the Official Naija Top 10 broadcast on MTV Base Africa.

I used to perform at a lot of churches, she said. They’ll give me money like N5k or N10k. Do you know how much money I’ve ever truly earned doing gospel music? N70,000. And I felt as though I had arrived. I continued to tithe with 10% of the money.

She claimed that she eventually stopped singing since her earnings from gospel music weren’t sufficient to cover studio fees and promotions.

Simi claimed that she signed with a record company she now regrets signing for due of a lack of funds.

The single mother claimed that after encountering difficulties in the religious music business, she later shifted to secular music.
