SP Bako had previously worked in Ogoni’s Khana LGA, where he was well-known for frequently attending events barefoot.
SP Bako Angbashim, the divisional police officer for Rivers State’s Ahoada Division, was slain in the line of duty.
The shooting, which took place in the small hours of Friday, came after reports of a gunfight in the Ahoada East neighbourhood of Odeimude between police officers on duty and members of a known cult.
The policemen beat a tactical retreat in the absence of reinforcements, but unfortunately the DPO who had sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange was captured by the cultists. A police informant who was hurt is being treated in an undisclosed location, according to sources familiar with the situation. SP Bako and his men were engaged in a fierce gun battle with a notorious cult leader in the area named 2baba when they reportedly ran out of ammunition.
The mutilated bones of Mr. Bako could be seen in a graphic film that is thought to have been distributed by the cultists, and a voice mocking him could be heard.
SP Bako had previously worked in Ogoni’s Khana LGA, where he was well-known for frequently attending events barefoot.
In a statement released by the Rivers State Police Command and signed by the Command’s PRO Grace Iringe-Koko, the police vowed to track down the murderers and bring them to justice.
“Rivers killing: We will not rest until justice is served,” the statement states.
In a tragic occurrence that occurred on September 8, 2023, SP Bako Angbashim, the DPO of Ahoada Division, showed exceptional bravery while on a mission to curb criminal activity in the Odumude Area of Ahoada East Local Government Area in Rivers State.
“SP Bako Angbashim and his committed team conducted a raid at some of the area’s well-known hotspots for illegal activity. The operation resulted in the pursuit of criminals out of their covert lairs. Tragically, a large group of criminals ambushed them as they were leaving this operation and started shooting at the brave officers.
In the face of this difficulty, SP Bako Angbashim bravely maintained his position while his men strategically withdrew after running out of ammunition. Unfortunately, SP Bako Angbashim died as a result of injuries he received during this battle, and one of his informants was also hurt and is currently receiving medical attention for a gunshot wound.
“SP Bako Angbashim’s body was taken by the criminals, prompting the surviving officers to head back to their base for reinforcement. The Army personnel stationed at FOB Base Etraco were contacted for aid in the effort to rescue and recover the DPO’s body.
“However, the operation proved difficult because of the gloomy surroundings of the dense vegetation.
“CP Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, PhD, the commissioner of police for Rivers State, has stated a strong desire to bring those responsible for this atrocious murder to justice.
“To learn the details of this unfortunate event’s circumstances, a thorough inquiry is currently being conducted.
The family of SP Bako Angbashim and everyone else impacted by this terrible occurrence are in our thoughts and prayers.
