Senator Kashim Shettima, the Vice President, will represent President Bola Tinubu at the United Nations Food Systems Summit in Rome as well as the Russia-Africa Summit.
Shettima will leave Abuja on Sunday for two big international summits in Rome, Italy, and St. Petersburg, Russia.
His spokesman, Olusola Abiola, revealed this in a statement on Sunday.
The Vice President will join other world leaders in Rome for the first Stocktaking Moment (STM) Summit, titled “Transforming Food Systems for People, Planet, and Prosperity,” which will take place from Monday, July 24th through Wednesday, July 26th.
During the summit, the Vice President will preside over a high-level session titled “Innovative Financing for Food System Transformation: the Case of Nigeria,” as well as a side event titled “Scaling up Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration and Investment in the Implementation of Food System Transformation Pathways in Nigeria.”
The event is being coordinated in partnership with the UN Agencies stationed in Rome, including the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the World Food Programme (WFP), as well as the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub and the larger UN system.
Shettima will then travel from Rome to St. Petersburg, Russia, for the Russia-Africa Summit on July 26.
“While in Russia, the Vice President will attend the 2nd Russia-Africa Summit and Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, which will focus on strategizing to improve relations between Russia and the African continent, among other benefits,” the statement said.
“Also, Vice President Shettima will participate in bilateral meetings with representatives of relevant Russian senior government officials and business leaders to discuss relations between Russia and Nigeria.”
The Vice President is anticipated to return to the country at the end of the week, accompanied by senior government officials from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
