The importance of the traditional institutions in the nation has been reaffirmed by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Shettima made the remarks on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja when he hosted a delegation led by retired Justice Sidi Bage I, Chairman of the Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs.

He expressed appreciation to the state’s government, people, and traditional leaders for their love and support of President Bola Tinubu during the most recent election campaign.

The people listen to you more than we do because you are the ones who are closest to them. You are the guardians of our rich cultural legacy. As our connection to the past, we admire and appreciate you.

Because of its proximity to the FCT, he claimed, Nasarawa State could be to the North what Lagos is to the South-West, and could be the engine room in this region. “Opportunities abound more in Nasarawa State, if we productively utilise our solid minerals,” he stated.

He added that Nasarawa is home to all of the nation’s solid minerals and asked the residents of the state to maintain peace in order for the state to thrive.

In an interview with newsmen, Bage stated that the purpose of the trip was to reaffirm Nasarawa’s support for President Tinubu’s administration.

We are paying the vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria a courtesy call today, and as a result, we are also paying this administration a courtesy visit.

This government is on our side. It is a friend of Nasarawa, it is a friend of our people, and on top of that, both the Vice President and the President are our own.

They are aware of how close Nassarawa State is, and since taking office we haven’t had a chance to personally congratulate them, which is why we are present today.

It might be a little bit easier to see the Vice President at his desk than the President, who is not very easy to see at his desk.

To see the vice president at his desk, greet him, and reassure him that our people are supporting this administration, we scheduled the appointment in advance.

“This administration has our complete devotion and support, and we stand behind all of their goals and the positive plans they have for the nation.

The traditional head of state expressed trust in Tinubu’s administration’s capability to get the nation to the desired level.

They are folks who we trust because they are people that we know and understand well. We are confident that with the two in charge of this nation’s affairs, future will be better than it is today.

We are stating that the President has begun, and we are certain that he has done it correctly. The plans that have been made for this nation’s policies and other aspects are the best that can be expected right now.

So, we’re here to urge the president to keep up the fantastic work he’s doing for this nation. State of Nasarawa is with you. We are in your corner.

We provide you with all the assistance required for you to accomplish the goals you have set for our nation. I’m grateful.

The delegation included the Andoma of Doma, Alhaji Ahmadu Ogah, the Chun Mada, Chief Samson Gamu Yare II, the Emir of Keffi, Dr. Shehu Chindo Yamusa III, the Emir of Awe, Alhaji Isa Abubakar, the Emir of Nasarawa, Alhaji Usman Jibrin, and others. (NAN)
