On Monday in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima gave political advisors the advice to abstain from any activities that would damage the standing of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Shettima made the request at the beginning of the retreat and awareness-raising workshop on administrative procedure and governance in the public sector for political aides and senior civil officials.
The retreat, which will take place from September 4 to September 22 at the Army Resource Centre, is being planned by the State House in collaboration with Direct Knowledge Consult L.td., according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
“It is crucial to use discretion in both your public and private lives, and to refrain from taking any actions that might damage the government’s reputation,” he stated.
Your words and deeds will be scrutinised and, on occasion, harshly criticised starting today.
The obligation you bear covers not just carrying out your specific duty but also the goals of the whole country.
The retreat’s goal, according to Shettima, who spoke on the subject of “Forging a Path to Responsible Governance: A Call to Political Aides,” was to provide attendees with knowledge of public administration principles.
The retreat is intended to ease your transition and provide you with knowledge of the core principles of public sector governance.
Our goal is to equitably improve the lives of our inhabitants and spur long-lasting change. For us, being a leader entails dismantling barriers to equality and promoting a secure, tranquil community.
We must fully commit to our responsibilities at the State House if we are to significantly increase educational possibilities and provide our children the knowledge they need to be independent.
“Let it be obvious that your skill is beyond question as many of you enter the field of public service, especially at the federal level.
You are here as a result of your impressive abilities and our belief in your ability to spark change. We desire for innovative concepts that will mesh with current practises, he stated.
Shettima addressed the delicate aspect of their duties as political aides by stating, “Starting right now, you are subject to the laws of our country in all instances of official correspondence.
These laws specify the penalties for both intentional and unintentional misuse of the data under your care.
The repercussions of failing to perform this duty would extend well beyond the complex web of government.
They might damage public confidence, endanger national security, and compromise the very integrity of our government.
He reminded the participants that their credibility, the credibility of their team, their superiors, and the credibility of the entire government were on the line.
Shettima also reminded the attendees that the State House serves as both a bulwark of law and the heart of the country’s public service.
Therefore, the vice president stressed the need of collaboration and teamwork, emphasising that there is no place for competitiveness.
Operations inside its precincts are based on a hierarchy, with each role and position adhering to clear communication and protocol guidelines.
Your first reaction should always be to realise that you are a member of a group working together to achieve a common goal.
Rivalry is not necessary. This is the very purpose of your being here, he added.
Earlier, Mr. Funso Adebiyi, the Permanent Secretary of the State House, indicated that the training was intended to document the political aides’ commitment to realising the objectives of the Tinubu administration.
He added that in order to ensure the efficient operation of the new administration, participants would be introduced to information and document management procedures.
Sen. Ibrahim Hadeja, the vice president’s deputy chief of staff, and Amb. Abubakar Rufa’i, the director general of the national intelligence agency, were present.
Others include the Director-General’s representatives, the Directorate of State Services representatives, and other top government officials. (NAN)
