Shettima Departs for New York to Attend 79th UN General Assembly

Vice President Kashim Shettima is in New York for the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly. She left Abuja earlier today.
Starting on Sunday, the journey was made “at the request of President Bola Tinubu,” according to Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication.
Nkwocha said in a statement headlined “VP Shettima Departs Abuja for US to Attend 79th UNGA” that Shettima has been designated by the President to head Nigeria’s mission while he attends to urgent national matters, such as the recent terrible floods.
Shettima is scheduled to deliver Nigeria’s national statement, participate in significant conversations off-camera, and conduct one-on-one meetings during the assembly.
“Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of” was the theme of the general debate.
September 24–September 28, 2024 is when the General Debate, with the topic “Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations,” is scheduled to take place.
