Vice President Kashim Shettima has demanded a stop to the practise of using strikes as a way to voice dissatisfaction with the administration.

Speaking at the University of Maiduguri’s 24th combined convocation (UNIMAID, Borno State), he was representing guest President Bola Tinubu.

He said on Saturday that “demanding improved welfare conditions for your members through confrontation is no longer fashionable.”

“Since continuous strikes are extremely harmful to the system, dialogue must always be the first option for resolving any problem or emergency.”

He claims that in order to address labour concerns, the Federal Government is always willing to have discussions with the nation’s unions.

The vice president further urged cooperation in funding the country’s educational system, stating that the government cannot accomplish it on its own.

Shettima received an honorary doctorate degree from the institution, which is having its first convocation since the 2018–2019 academic year, along with three other distinguished Nigerians.

“There are obstacles in life for every achievement. As you graduate today, there are a plethora of issues facing our country. He remarked, “I think the university has given you enough preparation to help provide solutions to these difficulties.

“The days when recent graduates looked to the government to solve all of their issues are quickly passing. I strongly advise you to determine your employability status by explicitly using the entrepreneurial training you received in college. No matter how little money or concept you have, start your own business.
