Shehu Sani states that Goodluck Jonathan is the only president whose reforms ultimately led to his downfall, a rare political occurrence.
According to Shehu Sani, an ex-legislator and activist at the federal level, no politician has suffered electoral defeat as a result of instituting reforms except for Goodluck Jonathan.
On Thursday, Sani was a speaker at the initial Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Roundtable in Abuja. The theme focused on Nigeria’s democratic longevity and the part played by its judiciary system.
According to the ex-Senator, who previously served as a representative of Kaduna central senatorial district during the 8th assembly, politicians lack integrity.
He said, “I have been both a part of civil society and involved in politics. This combination has given me the opportunity to understand both perspectives and identify key issues.”

“Our mindset as activists is fundamentally distinct from that of politicians. I’m currently investigating whether there’s any electoral reform Nigerian politicians are unable to modify.”
Why do we only refer to the judiciary as the final resort for ordinary people? Shouldn’t political parties, INEC, Presidency, military, Senate and House of Reps also be considered last resorts for them?
Our desire is for an impeccable legal system in a flawed structure. Within the realm of social and political engagement, we encounter two opposing viewpoints – one deemed incorrect and another considered correct; alas, politicians do not uphold this approach.
Our judiciary should meet higher standards. Jonathan is the only president who would enact electoral reforms that could result in his removal from office, and we need to recognize this.
He said that Jonathan was the sole individual to appoint a Chairman of INEC whom he had never encountered or known. Additionally, only Jonathan could have presented a data capturing device and ended up being captured by it.
