Throughout her battle, Doherty openly shared her journey with cancer, even hosting a podcast that chronicled her treatment, with the latest episode airing just last month.
Rising to stardom in the 1990s portraying Brenda Walsh in “Beverly Hills: 90210,” Doherty captivated audiences with her portrayal of the teenage character who, alongside her brother Brandon, portrayed by Jason Priestley, navigated life in the affluent Los Angeles community after relocating from Minnesota.
The show became a massive success, with viewers captivated by the intense rivalry between Brenda and Kelly, played by Jennie Garth, as they vied for the attention of heartthrob Dylan, portrayed by Luke Perry, who tragically passed away in 2019.
Addressing sensitive topics like racism, drug abuse, and teenage sexuality, “Beverly Hills: 90210” became a cultural phenomenon during its peak, pushing boundaries for an evening soap opera.
Despite leaving the show after the fourth season amidst reports of on-set conflicts, Doherty later reprised her role for reboots in 2008 and 2019.
She then went on to star in “Charmed,” where she played the eldest of three sisters who discover their magical abilities.
Doherty, born in Memphis, Tennessee, relocated to Los Angeles as a child. She started her acting career at the age of 10 with a role in the TV show “Father Murphy.”
She also starred in the cult teen classic “Heathers,” as well as in indie filmmaker Kevin Smith’s movies “Mallrats” and “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.”
