The first charge for Mudryk will be 70 million euros, and the remaining 30 million euros will come from performance fees.
Shakhtar Donetsk sold Mykhailo Mudryk to Chelsea over the weekend, and on Monday, the club said it would give a big chunk of the money to people who were hurt by the Russian invasion.
In a statement, Shakhtar President Rinat Akhmetov said, “I am donating $25 million (UAH 1 billion) today to help our warriors, defenders, and their families.”
The money “will be used to meet a wide range of needs, such as meeting specific requests and giving medical, prosthetic, and mental health care.”
The “Heart of Azovstal” project by Akhmetov is named after the steel mills in the port city of Mariupol in southeast Ukraine, which resisted a Russian invasion for several weeks in the spring of 2022 before giving up.
According to Akhmetov, “their deeds of bravery are unmatched in modern history.”
“It is them—their sacrifice and courage—that helped hold the enemy in check in the early stages of the conflict and let all of us sense the certainty of Ukraine’s victory now.”
Mykhaylo’s move to Chelsea, according to Akhmetov, made him “glad for Mykhaylo and proud of him.”
“I have no doubt that Mykhaylo’s excellent play will be praised by all of Europe.
On the other hand, I have always been open about the fact that I want to win European titles.
“This means that even when they play for the best teams in the world, players like Mudryk should be invited to our club, to our Ukrainian championship, and we should win European trophies with such players rather than root for them.”
“Unfortunately, that is not possible right now because Ukraine is engaged in a terrible and unjust war that the Russian Federation is waging against us. However, I am sure that we will triumph.
