Justice James Omotoso, a judge at the Federal High Court in Abuja, has rejected a request made by Edo Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu in an ex-parte motion.
Shaibu had filed the motion in an attempt to halt the impeachment process initiated by the state’s House of Assembly.
In his application, Shaibu sought an order from the court to prevent the third to fifth defendants from taking any action or setting up an investigative panel for his removal until a motion on notice is heard.
He also requested an interim injunction to prevent the defendants from interfering with the Originating Summons filed in the case.
However, Justice Omotoso declined these requests in a ruling dated March 13.
During the proceedings, the judge scheduled a hearing for another ex-parte motion brought by Shaibu, which seeks substituted service on the defendants due to difficulties in serving them.
It is worth noting that there is an ongoing dispute between Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki and Shaibu, both prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo, regarding the authentic governorship candidate of the party.
Obaseki is supporting Asue Ighodalo, a lawyer based in Lagos, who emerged as the party’s standard bearer in the governorship indirect primary election held at Samuel O.
