On Monday, the governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, and his deputy, Phillip Shaibu, allegedly locked each other out of their respective offices and restarted their feud.
Several people within the government building confirmed that the Deputy Governor and his security guards tried to force their way into the Governor’s personal office.
Early on Monday, the deputy governor allegedly sought to approach the governor when he arrived at the governor’s office on Dennis Osadebey Avenue.
Although he was informed that the governor wasn’t yet in the office, he insisted on being allowed entrance to the governor’s private office.
“He refused all requests from the security personnel to politely go back and call the governor if he wanted to meet his principal. Instead, he persisted in ramming the gate, making a mess. According to a source, observers are concerned that he would physically assault the governor.
According to a different account, the main entrance leading to the story building and the gate to the Deputy Governor’s office were both secured with strong chains and padlocks.
“Shaibu and his assistants stayed for almost an hour before departing. He reportedly made frantic calls in an attempt to reach the governor, but to no effect,” the insider continued.
Following inquiries, it was discovered that Shaibu had several conversations with the state’s police commissioner and the state director of the Department of State Services, DSS, informing them of his predicament.
He allegedly called Ibrahim Babatunde, the commandant of Government House Camp, and enquired as to the reason for his office’s lockout.
According to reports, Babatunde said it was an order from above and said Williams Wabba, the Government House’s CSO, would be better able to explain.
Shaibu contacted Wabba and asked her to attend, but she didn’t arrive till the deputy governor had left.
