Edo Chief Judge Justice Daniel Okungbowa has established a new seven-member panel to investigate the allegations against Edo Deputy Governor Comrade Philip Shaibu, as outlined in the March 6, 2024 impeachment notice issued by the 24-member Assembly.

The Chief Registrar of Edo High Court, Mr. B. O. Osawaru, released a statement on Monday, referencing number CR/4837/Vol. I1/131, confirming that the panel would continue to be led by Justice S.A. Omonua (rtd.).
Osawaru clarified that the formation of the panel was in accordance with Section 188 (5) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), ensuring a legal and constitutional process.
The other members of the newly constituted panel include Prof. Theresa Akpoghome, Oghogho Ayodele Oviasu, Dr. Andrew Oliha, Idris Abdulkareen, President Aighokhian, and Mariam Erakhoba Ilavbare, who will be responsible for thoroughly investigating the allegations.
Following a resolution by 19 out of the 24 members of the Assembly on March 19, the Chief Judge was directed to form the seven-member panel, highlighting the seriousness and urgency of the matter at hand.
Meanwhile, Edo Deputy Governor Shaibu sought relief from the Federal High Court (FHC) in Abuja through an ex-parte motion, requesting a halt to any further actions related to the impeachment process until the substantive matter is resolved, involving various key figures in the state’s governance.
