Nigerians are encouraged to stay calm during these economic challenges, as President Bola Tinubu is dedicated to enhancing the economy,” Akume mentioned in Abuja during his speech to the National Executive Council of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
He acknowledged that the current administration inherited a struggling economy but assured that significant reforms were underway.
“One of the tough reforms is the removal of fuel subsidy, which may be hard to grasp for some. People should seek the truth instead of just protesting,” Akume emphasized.
He highlighted the government’s efforts to alleviate the hardships faced by the citizens, including the allocation of N100 billion for CNG fuel buses to reduce transportation costs and food prices.
Regarding support for different sectors, he stated, “We have allocated N125 billion in conditional grants for small and medium enterprises, along with 150 billion naira in palliative loans to states to counter the effects of fuel subsidy removal.”
Akume also mentioned the provision of 200 billion naira to support agricultural activities and the imminent distribution of buses, rice, and other essentials.
In response to the Labour strike, he criticized the shutdown of the national grid, labeling it as a “treasonable offence” and urged Labour to refrain from such actions.
