Seven PDP members who served on the Imo State Working Committee (SWC) have resigned from their various posts and left the organization.
On Sunday in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, the officials announced their resignation in a joint statement that Collins Opurozor, the Imo PDP State publicity secretary, made accessible to DAILY POST.
Sir Martins Ejiogu, the deputy chairman, Ray Emeana, the secretary, and Greg G.O.C. Nwadike, the youth leader, all submitted their resignations.
Collins Opurozor, the publicity secretary, Mrs. Maria Mbakwe, a woman leader, Josiah Eze, the treasurer, and Chibuisi Obido, the vice chairman of the Orlu Zone are among the others.
There is no indication, according to the Imo PDP SWC’s group of seven members, that Senator Anyanwu will run for governor in November. As State Working Committee members, they asserted, “If he claims to be running, it is not to our knowledge.”
The party doesn’t know how his program will appear, the statement goes. That is, assuming he has any. Campaigns for governor have begun, although the party is unaware of any entities resembling a campaign council.
“Even though the Party Secretariat’s lease has now ended, the landlord has continued to bother us. Since Senator Anyanwu became the party’s candidate, party employees have not received their pay. The party cannot even afford to buy office supplies or fuel for our generator.
“However, someone is disguising himself as our governorship candidate. We can no longer stand by and use ourselves as tools to deceive the Imo people. Never.
We, the undersigned members of the Imo State Working Committee of the PDP, have decided to resign our various positions in the party and leave the party collectively in light of the aforementioned and numerous other horrific revelations that will soon be made public.
In the coming weeks, there will only be Senator Anyanwu left in the party because we’ve “opened the floodgates” to resignations and defections.
The party officials explained their decision to resign by saying: “It is heartbreaking to inform all that some of us in the State Working Committee have severally escaped assassination attempts because of the wicked lies which our National Secretary sold to his violent supporters, that they misappropriated party funds.”
They declared that they witnessed a strong, active, inclusive, and effective political party structure when Emeka Ihedioha was in charge of the party. “Every success recorded by Imo PDP is owed to the resourcefulness, and exceptional leadership of former Governor Ihedioha,” they asserted.
Contrarily, all of the recent ills that have affected us are directly attributable to Samdadday, according to their statement. And after Cain killing Abel, the unjust imposition of Samdadday on us as governorship candidates by the Ayu-led National Working Committee is the cruelest thing that has ever happened.
“When Senator Anyanwu eventually succeeded in establishing himself as the party’s nominee for governor, he called a meeting of all the LGA Youth Leaders at his home in Owerri and publicly admitted that he had lied to them about financial mismanagement in the party by the State Working Committee.
“He also expressed regret to the State Youth Leader for the attacks and assassination attempts he had endured as a result of the lies Samdadday had spread. During the one meeting he has had with us as SWC members since he became a candidate for governor, he also admitted to the lies and repeated the apologies. He said that his struggle for survival was the cause of every lie he had spread about us.
“Senator Anyanwu opposed calls by State Chairman Charles Ugwuh for the police to look into the attack. Is that not startling? How can a leader who claims to want to restore safety to Imo be seen encouraging acts of violence and unrest, even against members of his own party?
