Since Monday, the musician has been detained by authorities.
According to the defendant’s attorney, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN), the Lagos State Police Command has obtained a court order authorizing them to hold troubled Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti till Monday.
The lawyer claimed that the police asked the Magistrate’s Court in Yaba to change the bail that had previously been granted to the artist in an interview with Channels Television on Thursday.
The artist’s attorney said that because the police failed to notify them that they would be appearing in court on Thursday, the singer was not represented in court.
When Olumide-Fusika arrived at court, the act had already been completed, according to him.
The attorney claimed that despite the police’s request for a different bail amount, the magistrate turned down the request and continued Kuti’s incarceration until Monday.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos police spokesman, could not be reached for comment as of the time of this report’s writing.
The court granted Kuti bail on Tuesday, with the requirements to be satisfied in 48 hours.
After receiving a warrant for his arrest from the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, the musician turned himself in to the police on Monday and has remained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, since.
On a busy Lagos road, the musician was seen on camera punching and kicking a police officer.
