Service chiefs are appointed without regard to their federal character – Presidency
On Monday night, the Presidency declared that the federal character principle and ethnic balance are not applicable to the nomination of service heads.
This was said by the president’s spokesperson, Femi Adesina, on the Politics Today show on Channels Television.
Adesina argued that security should be determined by competence rather than politics and that his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari, has the right to pick people he believes are qualified to protect Nigeria from terrorist assaults.
Adesina urged people to not subject security to federal character or ethnic balancing.
In reality, the constitution that establishes the federal nature of government even grants the president specific prerogatives that allow for independent appointment.
“Security is something you do based on the best,” he continued. When all you want is for your nation to be secure, you only want the finest and the brightest. The President frequently remarked, “You cannot govern a country or even an organisation effectively unless it is safe.
