Iya Abbas, the senator for the Adamawa Central Senatorial District, has refuted rumours that the federal government gave senators food and money as consolation gifts to be given to their constituents.
In a Monday discussion with reporters in Yola, the senator refuted the reports.

He claims that he used his money to purchase the food and cash presents that he gave out during the previous Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.
“No one has given me money or rice to distribute as consolation to our constituents while I talk to you. It was a fabricated story designed to damage our reputation.
“Let the contractor bring the invoice for each Senator if it is true,” he remarked.
The senator emphasised that the reports are untrue and urged the people disseminating the “news” to provide the supporting documentation.
