Senator Walid Jibrin, a leader in the Peoples Democratic Party, expressed worries about the political climate in Nasarawa State and urged Governor Abdullahi Sule to promptly hand over the reins of power to David Ombugadu.
While emphasising that Islam forbids robbery, injustice, or cheating, the former Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees said it was stunning that Governor Sule had turned to religion as a weapon against his rival despite the polls’ evident failure.
At a news conference in Abuja on behalf of the PDP, Senator Jibrin urged the state’s Muslims and Christians to fully support Dr. David Ombugadu’s appointment as governor of Nasarawa State.
“I am a devout Muslim and an elderly man of over 70 years, and I am shocked by Sule’s attempt to blame his defeat on religion instead of the overwhelming facts before God and all Nigerians, which showed that he didn’t win the most recent governorship election in Nasarawa State and should, therefore, honourably vacate the seat for the victor Dr. David Ombugadu of the PDP,” he said.

Senator Jibrin recalled events leading up to the 2023 election campaign and claimed it was abundantly evident that Nasarawa residents were no longer supporting the current governor, Abdullahi Sule of the APC.
He said, “The Governor was met by street demonstrations by women and youths from the first APC campaign outing in Toto Local Government. They made it quite plain to him that they were sick of his ineffectiveness and empty promises.
Toto had indeed been without electricity for about ten years under the APC’s governorship of our state. Nasarawa State’s residents’ needs and ambitions were not being met by Governor Sule.
“The February 25 presidential election served as a preview of what was to come. The APC was last in Nasarawa State, where it is the government.
“Governor Sule suffered a crushing loss in the governorship election as voters in his Local Government of Akwanga decisively rejected him and cast their ballots in support of PDP challenger Dr. David Ombugadu.
“After serving in office for four years, Sule experienced a humiliating defeat in his senatorial district.
The Governor was completely beaten in Lafia, the state capital, and in Doma Local Govt., where His Deputy Dr. Akabe is from, making the situation in the Southern Zone even worse!
“Obi Local Government also disapproved of him and overwhelmingly supported PDP candidate Dr. David Ombugadu! In the Southern zone, these LGAs have the highest populations.
Only Keffi gave Sule any actual votes in the West Senatorial District. In Kokona, where the state chairman of the APC is from, and in Karu, where there are the most registered voters in our state, he was beaten.
Remember that Dr. Ombugadu had won the governorship election with ease by Sunday am based on all uploads to the INEC IREV platform.
This is due to the fact that by Sunday, March 19th, 99.67% of all polling unit results had been uploaded. This included all results from the Gayam and Ciroma Wards in Lafia Town, which INEC later shamelessly rigged by adding magic votes at the Local Government Collation Centre to surprise everyone in Nigeria by declaring the loser the winner!
We were all taken aback by what transpired because, as of today, the INEC IREV platform’s voting unit results from Nasarawa state indicate that Dr. Ombugadu of the PDP defeated Engr. Sule.
