Senator Ireti Kingibe Denies Sponsoring Abuja Protests

Senator Ireti Kingibe, who is the representative of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at the National Assembly, has categorically refuted accusations suggesting that she is sponsoring demonstrations linked to #EndBadGovernance in Abuja.

The video being circulated online purportedly implicates Senator Kingibe in the protests. Nevertheless, she has dismissed this allegation as “false information.”

On X, she expressed her shock and outrage towards the deliberate lies and misleading information being spread by troublemakers. She clarified that the video in circulation is from a Labour Party NWC meeting over six weeks ago while there was a protest outside their office led by the NLC.

During the conversation, she clarified that the video under discussion was recorded six weeks before at a meeting of Labour Party National Working Committee (NWC), where Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) members were seen protesting outside their office.

Kingibe, along with Senators, House of Representatives members and Mr. Peter Obi among other stakeholders worked together to engage with the protestors in addressing their concerns.

Those spreading the video were accused by Senator Kingibe of attempting to discredit her and Mr. Obi by falsely presenting the footage as current, claiming they were leading protests in Abuja.

To clarify, I want to state that Mr. Peter Obi is not presently in Abuja, and personally due to sickness, I have been confined to my home since Wednesday without any involvement in the distribution of food or water at protest sites.

However admirable such actions may be by whoever did them. It’s disheartening how some people are deliberately propagating lies and causing disorder using this as evidence for attributing the sponsorship of the protests taking place in Abuja on me; something which completely false.”

She went on to denounce the lies as an “outrageous and reckless deed” that will not be allowed.

She stressed that she would not tolerate any unscrupulous individuals tarnishing her name and reputation.
