Senate to Conduct Ministerial Nominee Screening Today
The Nigerian Senate will screen nominees for ministerial positions today, evaluating candidates for key roles in the federal government. Follow for live updates on the process.
The Senate is scheduled to start the screening process today for ministerial nominees submitted by President Bola Tinubu for confirmation.
The nominees have been cleared by the Department of State Services (DSS) and are prepared for assessment.
In a burst of activity, the nominees hurried to Senator Basheer Lado’s office, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, yesterday to hand in their curriculum vitae before the submission deadline. The Ministers of Education, Trade and Investment, and Livestock were among those who submitted early.
Senator Lado announced that the documentation process for the ministerial nominees has begun in preparation for their screening and confirmation by the Senate, starting today.
The statement read: “He mentioned that the nominees were in the process of submitting necessary documents, marking the initial step in a series of procedures for their screening and confirmation as ministerial candidates.”
The nominees are anticipated to undergo screening and confirmation by the Senate in accordance with Section 147 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended in 1999.
President Tinubu had previously sent a letter to the Senate, requesting the screening and confirmation of appointments for seven ministerial nominees announced in Abuja on Wednesday.

The letter indicates that the ministerial nominees include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda for Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi for Minister of Labour and Employment, and Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu for Minister of State, Foreign Affairs.
The list also included Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Development; Idi Maiha, the Minister of Livestock Development; Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, the Minister of State for Housing; and Dr. Suwaiba Ahmad, the Minister of State for Education.
In the letter, President Tinubu asked the Senate to promptly consider his request.
As announced by Akpabio, the Senate promptly directed the presidential request to the Committee of the Whole for consideration.
He stated, “Esteemed colleagues, the presidential request is being forwarded to the committee of the whole for prompt consideration.”
