The Nigerian Senate has called upon Brigadier-General Buba Marwa (Retired), the Chairman of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), to respond to accusations directed at Senator Oyelola Ashiru, Deputy Senate Leader from Kwara South.
This action comes after Senator Ashiru raised a point of order during a plenary session.
In reaction to the situation, the Senate has formed a committee consisting of six members to look into the allegations presented by the NDLEA.
The agency charged Senator Ashiru with making derogatory comments about them during a Senate debate, asserting that his actions were driven by personal vendetta.

The accusation arises from Ashiru’s alleged frustration over his inability to stop the arrest of his aides involved in drug-related activities at his home in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The Senate panel, led by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe from Abia South, comprises Senators Kaka Shehu (Borno Central), Ede Dafinone (Delta Central), Ireti Kingibe (FCT), Afolabi Shauibu (Ogun Central), and Lawal Usman (Kaduna Central). They are responsible for summoning all involved parties to discuss the issue.
During the session, Senator Ashiru cited Order 42 of the Senate Standing Order to convey how the allegations have adversely affected his reputation.
He strongly denied any personal involvement with drugs, highlighting that he avoids alcohol and even carbonated drinks. He called on his colleagues to address the issue seriously in order to clear his name.
