Senate promises Nigerians of thorough and quick scrutiny of ministerial nominees
Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, has assured Nigerians that once the list is received, the upper legislative chamber will conduct rigorous screening of ministerial nominees who will form the Federal Executive Council of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.
Adaramodu offered the guarantee during a phone conversation with Obasanjonews24 over the weekend.
Nigerians have since expressed considerable reservations over the Presidency’s perceived slowness in dispatching the nominees.
An investigation found that MPs who were scheduled to take their annual vacation this week may have decided to postpone it in order to vet ministerial nominees, as the Presidency is set to release the long-awaited list this week.
According to the terms of a new amendment to the 1999 Constitution, the President and governors must submit the names of those nominated as ministers or commissioners for confirmation by the Senate or state House of Assembly within 60 days of taking the oath of office.
The Senator for Ekiti South stated that there was adequate time to review the nominees because the presidency was still inside what he called the Constitutional umbrella.
The Senate spokeswoman, who could not confirm whether the Senate leadership had received the list, assured Nigerians that the Senate would not disappoint them by conducting a thorough and expedient vetting.
“I have repeatedly and for the umpteenth time stated that there is still enough time to receive and screen Ministerial nominees,” he said. We know that Nigerians are eager to see the Executive team that will breathe new life into our economy and make life more prosperous for all of us.
“We are unquestionably within the scope of the Constitution.” The Senate will undoubtedly perform its duty and will not disappoint Nigerians.”
