The 10th National Assembly’s Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akapbio, was endorsed by former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, who has now explained his reasoning.
Akpabio gave Wike’s campaign N200 million in 2014 and 2015, the governor claiming that one good deed deserves another.
Speaking on Sunday during a special thanksgiving ceremony that his family had planned for him at the St. Peters Deanery in Rumuepirikom, a town in the state’s Obio-Akpor region.
By supporting his bid for governor in 2015, he claimed Akpabio defied critics.
Wike claims: “He came out and supported me when I ran in 2014 and 2015. He gave me 200 million Naira for that election. I argued that one good deed merits another for this reason. I’m glad he won since I helped him this time.
In response, Akpabio stated that the N200 million he provided Wike in 2015 did not come from the state of Akwa Ibom, where he was the governor at the time.
Before becoming governor, the Senate President worked in the telecom industry as a managing director, and he stated that the money came from his savings from that job.
