The bill creating the College of Geological and Cement Studies in Iselu, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, has been urged to be passed by the Senate as soon as possible.
Olamilekan Adeola, the senator for Ogun West, sponsored the measure that was approved on first reading by the Senate on October 5.
Yewa North Local Government in Ogun State is one among the regions with a significant limestone deposit and other natural resources, according to OBASANJO NEWS24.
One of the cement mills owned by the Dangote Group is housed by the local government in the Ibese neighbourhood.
According to OBASANJO NEWS24, Adeola was influenced by this when he decided to propose a bill requesting that the Federal Government build the College of Ecological and Cement Studies in the Iselu neighbourhood of Yewa North.

On Monday, representatives of the Ketu Advancement Forum (KAF) encouraged Adeola to do everything in his power to ensure that the Senate and the House of Representatives support the swift passage of the measure.
In a statement signed by its Coordinator-General, Kunle Abiose, and the Secretary-General, Dotun Adeleye, the group said, “We fervently urge you to deploy all your legislative sagacity at mobilising members of both Chambers of the National Assembly to kindly support the speedy passage of the bill and the establishment of the College.”
The group praised Adeola and said, “This is more fitting for Iselu and Ketu land with their preponderance of limestone deposit, which is one of the largest in Nigeria.”
Similar to this, the Pro-Democracy Group, Alimosho, expressed gratitude in an open letter to the Senate for allowing the Bill to pass its First Reading on Thursday.
Sharafadeen Anifowoshe, the group’s convener, wrote in the letter that this “clearly shows the desire of the National Assembly to facilitate the birth of a specialised institution that will be building and producing Engineers for the geological and cement industries of our dear country, Nigeria.”
He stated, “The President has given the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, clearance to start using cement/concrete roads throughout the nation. This follows on from the several advantages concrete roads offer over those made of asphalt.
The vast cement industry will need engineers because the country’s need for cement will expand as a result of this new strategy.
The Pro-Democracy Group urged the Senate to pass the Bill as quickly as possible so that President Bola Tinubu could sign it.
“Once more, we would want to express our gratitude for the attention exhibited in the Bill by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, the Bill’s Sponsor, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, and other highly esteemed Senators.
The statement said, “We thank the Senate once more in anticipation of a swift passage of the Bill that will support the Federal Republic of Nigeria Executive to diversify the economy from crude oil to other mineral resources for the betterment of our dear country, Nigeria.”
